President Donald Trump’s stock accounts offloaded shares of Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, during June and early July. Weeks afterward, they re-entered the position, and the equity has since surged roughly 83%.
A federal ethics disclosure published on September 22 highlights the renewed purchases. Because MicroStrategy functions as the foremost corporate holder of Bitcoin, its stock price tends to mirror the movements of the flagship cryptocurrency.
How Trump’s Accounts Sold, Then Bought Back
The liquidation phase began in June. The portfolios disposed of Strategy shares on June 23 and June 24 in amounts totaling between $16,002 and $65,000. Two days afterward, the stock touched $81.81 during a trading session, marking its summer trough.
The updated Office of Government Ethics filing encompasses 1,156 transactions from July, according to Bitcoin Treasuries. It details an additional Strategy disposition executed on July 8, valued between $1,001 and $15,000.
Subsequently, accumulation commenced. The accounts acquired $1,001 to $15,000 worth of the equity on July 24, followed by a $50,001 to $100,000 purchase on July 27. The documentation provides financial brackets rather than exact share quantities or purchase prices.
Strategy finished trading at $91.67 on July 24 and reached $167.33 on September 22, based on data from StockAnalysis. This corresponds to the 83% advance highlighted by Quiver Quantitative, an organization that monitors the financial transactions of politicians.
The larger transaction on July 27, executed at a closing price of $98.65, shows an approximate 70% increase.
Why Strategy Stock Was Cheap in July
During July, Strategy had paused its Bitcoin acquisitions. Its reserves remained steady at 843,775 BTC while the firm issued new stock to generate capital.
Simultaneously, shareholder enthusiasm waned. Internal metrics from Strategy indicate that its stock averaged $1.7 billion in daily trading volume during July, representing the lowest level of 2026. By comparison, that metric rebounded to $3.6 billion in September.
Bitcoin has since rebounded to roughly $86,423 per token. MicroStrategy has restarted its purchasing strategy, reporting holdings of 846,000 BTC as of September 21.
Who Actually Made the Trades
According to the Trump Organization, independent financial institutions oversee the portfolios.
“Neither President Trump, his family, nor The Trump Organization plays any role in selecting, directing, or approving specific investments,” CBS reported, citing the Trump Organization.
While the Strategy acquisitions are modest compared to the month’s aggregate trading volume of $79 million to $270 million, Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Robert Garcia nevertheless raised questions regarding the timing of Trump’s trades via an August letter.
The disclosure does not specify whether the accounts maintain their stake in the shares. Subsequent trading activity will be addressed in the August report.
