A Metalayer Capital strategy supported by an initial institutional allocation employs GLDY as the long leg of a delta-neutral gold trade, opening a fresh demand avenue for Streamex’s yield-bearing tokenized gold, with additional investments expected.
Nasdaq-listed technology firm Streamex Corp., which is shaping the future of commodity markets via tokenization, has landed an institutional capital commitment to evaluate whether tokenized commodities can attract purchasers beyond retail participants.
According to an individual familiar with the situation who lacked authorization to speak for the firm, a prominent institutional investor has committed an initial $1 million—with potential follow-on investments expected—toward a relative-value strategy utilizing GLDY, the gold-backed token from Streamex, as its long gold holding. The insider noted that the strategy is managed by systematic investment firm Metalayer Capital through its Aureon Relative Value Fund.
Metalayer Capital was established by former Two Sigma executives and chose not to provide a comment.
The insider explained that the approach couples GLDY with a balancing short position in gold-linked perpetual futures, making the trade generally neutral to gold price fluctuations. Instead, it seeks to capture the yield offered by GLDY, which Streamex aims at 3.5% annually in extra gold produced via a gold-leasing program.
For Streamex, the importance centers on the underlying mechanics: funds directed into the long leg flow directly into GLDY, boosting the assets under management that generate company fees.
While the initial $1 million allocation is confirmed and further investments are anticipated, the true weight of the milestone rests on the buyer profile, indicating that tokenized instruments such as GLDY are beginning to capture the attention of institutional investors alongside accredited individuals.
Streamex outlined a set of objectives for the subsequent 90 days back in August.
“Converting the first institutional allocations into GLDY was at the top of that list,” stated Henry McPhie, co-founder and chief executive of the firm. He described the partnership as “a fundamentally different growth channel than selling to one investor at a time.”
Any funds beyond the initial $1 million remain entirely at the investor’s discretion, and there is no guarantee that further quantities of GLDY will be purchased.
The organizations share additional connections. The source indicated that Metalayer additionally serves as a liquidity provider for GLDY across specific trading platforms and maintains the ability to mint and redeem the token directly with the issuer. Streamex neither manages nor sponsors the fund and receives no compensation tied to the fund’s fundraising activities.
GLDY is restricted to eligible investors via securities registration exemptions, and its current base consists primarily of accredited investors pursuing yield. Streamex has delivered six consecutive monthly payouts on the token, with the most recent occurring in September, and maintains transparency regarding its gold reserves through a Chainlink proof-of-reserves feed.
