Securitize (SECZ) stock climbed over 15% on Friday, building on a dramatic rebound concurrent with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission establishing a fresh regulatory framework for trading tokenized equities.

Trading at $16.53, the firm—which develops real-world asset (RWA) tokenization technology and acts as the transfer agent for BlackRock’s blockchain-based BUIDL money market fund—has seen its shares surge 77% across the last five sessions and 158% over the preceding month.

    The Rule Behind the Rally

This regulatory carve-out arrives on the heels of a booming period for tokenized real-world assets, ranging from private credit and funds to onchain equities. The SEC established a five-year Innovation Exemption on September 17, permitting tokenized securities platforms to function minus traditional exchange registration.

Additionally, the rule exempts specific liquidity providers from broker-dealer registration requirements when they furnish tokenized shares to automated market maker (AMM) pools.

SEC Chair Paul Atkins described the exemption as a temporary bridge.

“in a permissioned environment today while the commission considers the need for additional action to facilitate onchain trading”

    Paul Atkins, SEC chair, said

The directive expands upon a joint declaration made in January by the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). That pronouncement categorized tokenized securities while clarifying that the process of tokenization alters only the format of a security rather than its fundamental legal standing.

    Securitize’s Bet on Onchain Equity

Following its July debut on the New York Stock Exchange via a business combination with Cantor Equity Partners II, Securitize immediately tokenized $295 million of its proprietary SECZ stock on the Avalanche and Solana blockchains, marking the largest issuer-backed tokenized equity rollout in history.

With six-month, year-to-date, and twelve-month metrics all hovering near 50%, the stock’s 158% one-month jump indicates that virtually all of the company’s annual gains have materialized recently.

While clearer regulations eliminate a major hurdle for tokenization providers, they do not assure sustained investor interest in an enterprise still striving for steady profitability. Consequently, the durability of this upward trend may hinge on that very outcome.
