U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds brought in $2.39 billion in net inflows over the week, marking their highest weekly total of 2026.

These products function on the stock market like standard shares while backing investor holdings with actual Bitcoin. Yet, on-chain research and daily flow statistics indicate that buying pressure was more subdued than the weekly headline figures imply.

Bitcoin ETF Inflows Hit a Record, Then Slowed Every Day

Figures from SoSoValue show that the week kicked off on September 21 with $998.95 million. Following that opening day, inflows declined during each consecutive session, dropping to $134.47 million by Friday. Although capital continued to flow in for a seventh straight day, Friday’s total was roughly 87% lower than Monday’s.

Monday’s massive influx arrived on the heels of a 6.7% Bitcoin rally that traded on its heaviest volume since August 21. During that period, approximately $262 million in short positions against Bitcoin were liquidated within an hour, forcing those traders into purchasing the asset.

Funds had previously made a comeback following the Federal Reserve’s decision on September 16 to adjust rates to a range of 3.75% to 4%.

Market sentiment shifted on September 23 after S&P Global released a business survey revealing the strongest U.S. growth pace since July 2021, alongside a 10-year Treasury yield climbing past 5%. Bitcoin dropped below $84,000 inside an hour, and BeInCrypto reported the next day that ETF acquisitions had contracted for three straight sessions.

According to BeInCrypto Markets, Bitcoin is currently valued near $84,241, representing a 24-hour decline of 0.06%. Meanwhile, ETFs collectively manage $108.42 billion in assets.

Signs That Bitcoin Buyers Are Still Active

Additional metrics support the argument that demand remains present. Data from CryptoQuant indicates that roughly $2.52 billion in net Bitcoin left major trading platforms between September 22 and 24. Withdrawals from exchanges typically signal transfers into long-term custody.

Large-scale investors are also accumulating coins. Santiment metrics demonstrate that wallets holding between 100 and 1,000 BTC have accumulated 113,950 BTC since July 15.

Additionally, figures from River—a Bitcoin financial services firm—show that long-term investors have stacked more than 3 million BTC since 2020.

Why River Says Supply, Not Demand, Is Driving the Rally

River interprets the underlying market dynamics differently. Their figures indicate that 16.3 million BTC, representing 81% of the total Bitcoin supply, has remained stationary for a minimum of six months. At the same time, exchange trading volumes are tracking 30% lower compared to the start of the year.

As of River’s September 23 report, ETFs had accumulated roughly 18,000 BTC throughout September, a rate that falls short of their average monthly intake since inception.

“Bitcoin has risen 50% without a real increase in demand,” the team wrote.

River suggests that a reduction in circulating coins changing hands has driven prices upward to a greater degree than an influx of new buyers.

For once, there is a real supply shock in bitcoin.

    This year:
    – Trading volumes are down 30%
    – Price is up 50%
    – 81% of the supply hasn’t moved in 6 months

The upcoming milestone for the market takes place on September 30 with the release of August’s personal consumption expenditures (PCE) inflation figures, which serve as the Federal Reserve’s favored metric for tracking price changes.

Market analysts anticipate that a methodological adjustment in that report will drive inflation numbers down, while River points out that forecasting when robust demand will reappear remains impossible.
