Michael Saylor, executive chairman of Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), shared a new Bitcoin (BTC) chart on Sunday accompanied by the caption “Even more orange.” This type of post frequently precedes the company’s announcements of fresh Bitcoin acquisitions by a day.
As the leading corporate holder of Bitcoin publicly, Strategy discloses its buys through regulatory filings submitted to US authorities, typically on Mondays.
Last Sunday’s Orange Post Came a Day Before a 950 BTC Buy
Since orange serves as Bitcoin’s signature color, every orange dot on Saylor’s chart represents a purchase, with larger dots indicating larger acquisitions.
“Even more orange,” Saylor indicated.
The previous Sunday, he shared a comparable chart with the caption “A little more orange.” That evening, BeInCrypto highlighted Saylor’s hint and noted that Monday’s update would provide clarification.
That proved correct. The following day, MicroStrategy revealed a purchase of 950 BTC valued at roughly $76 million, translating to $79,670 per coin based on its records. This transaction elevated its total holdings to 846,000 BTC.
However, this signal does not guarantee a purchase will follow every time. During the preceding week, Strategy’s regulatory submission indicated zero Bitcoin transactions.
Why MicroStrategy’s Next Bitcoin Move Matters
Strategy has not exclusively been a buyer throughout the year. Its records document four separate sales occurring between June 30 and August 10, amounting to an aggregate of 6,916 BTC.
Furthermore, the company allocated $174 million last week to repurchase STRC, a preferred stock offering monthly dividends to investors. This figure was more than double the amount it dedicated to Bitcoin.
At present, Bitcoin is changing hands near $84,974, reflecting a 1% gain over the past 24 hours. This valuation sits approximately 13% higher than Strategy’s average purchase price of roughly $75,416 per coin. Earlier in the month, the firm’s position rested 2% above its cost basis.
The upcoming Monday filing will clarify whether the acquisition of 950 coins last week marked the return of consistent accumulation or the continuation of a more measured pace.
