The crypto super PAC Fairshake has launched a $30 million ad campaign opposing former Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown. The initiative comes just one week after the Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act.
Brown, a Democrat, is attempting to win back the seat he lost in 2024. According to Fairshake, additional spending targeting both House and Senate contests will come next, featuring backing for candidates across both major parties.
Fairshake Returns to a Familiar Target
The Senate did not pass the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act on September 15. The procedural vote ended 49-50, falling well short of the 60 votes required to advance.
This result marked a major disappointment for the digital asset sector. In response, the cryptocurrency-backed super PAC Fairshake is focusing its financial resources on Democratic candidates ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
The effort against Brown in Ohio represents one part of this strategy. Brown is no stranger to the sector’s political spending.
As the leading Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee, he became the target of $41 million in Fairshake advertising during the 2024 election cycle.
Brown subsequently lost his seat that November. Afterward, Republicans highlighted digital asset funding as a primary factor in the opposing candidate’s victory.
Traders Give Democrats the Edge in November
Fairshake begins its push on Tuesday utilizing advertisements and direct mail directed at Brown. *The New York Times* characterized this operation as the digital asset sector’s most forceful midterm intervention to date.
Brown is running against Republican Senator Jon Husted in Ohio. This Senate race remains among the most critical battles for control of Congress.
Federal disclosures show that Fairshake and two associated organizations maintain a combined war chest totaling $120.4 million. Furthermore, *The New York Times* noted that Fairshake has poured more than $68 million into congressional primaries this cycle.
Although Fairshake brands itself as bipartisan and supported select Democrats during 2024, its general election investments this year are projected to lean heavily toward Republicans.
This capital enters the race as national prediction markets begin shifting away from Republicans. Polymarket participants currently assign Democrats a 93% probability of capturing the House and a 65% chance of winning the Senate, compared to 7% and 36% for Republicans, respectively.
Ohio reflects a similar trend. Polymarket’s U.S. market prices Brown at 61% and Husted at 40%, whereas the international market sits closer at 55% to 46%.
Polling data has also shifted. A Reuters/Ipsos poll showed President Trump’s approval rating dropping to an all-time low of 32%. The Ohio showdown will serve as a test of whether a $30 million investment can still achieve the crypto industry’s desired outcome.
