XRP rebounded sharply toward $1.50 on September 21, bouncing back from earlier monthly lows near $1.27. This price recovery was accompanied by a dramatic surge in exchange activity.
On-chain data indicates that average daily XRP inflows onto Binance hit 21.7 million tokens, surging 663% above the normal quarterly baseline.
What Triggered This Sudden Spike in Exchange Flows
When tokens transfer from private wallets to a trading platform, it is known as an exchange inflow, which typically indicates either readiness to sell or a repositioning of assets for trading. Understanding this distinction is crucial for analyzing XRP’s current market standing.
The vast majority of these deposits occurred across just three trading sessions. Binance registered 91.2 million tokens on September 11, followed by 44.5 million on September 16, and 41.7 million on September 17. These dates coincided with the unsuccessful vote on the CLARITY Act and the Federal Reserve implementing its first interest rate hike since 2023.
Even with these substantial deposits, the total XRP reserves held on Binance increased by a mere 0.22%, bringing the total to approximately 2.63 billion tokens. Concurrently, daily outflows averaged 11.6 million tokens during this timeframe. This trend suggests active, two-way turnover rather than a continuous wave of one-sided selling.
Whale wallets provided further perspective on the situation. Data from Santiment, highlighted by analyst Ali Martinez, revealed that large holders expanded their collective XRP holdings by roughly 1.54 billion tokens—valued at $2.2 billion—in a span of 96 hours last week, reinforcing the ongoing accumulation trend.
Could This Rally Reverse in the Coming Sessions?
Technical metrics highlight several key price thresholds to monitor. XRP recently displayed an uncommon bullish formation, marking only the fourth instance in its history where prices have rebounded so vigorously from a major long-term support band. The 50-week moving average, positioned near $1.51, acts as the primary upside objective.
Successfully breaking past that threshold could pave the way toward the $1.80 target area. Meanwhile, a strong volume-based support floor is established near $1.38, a region where past trading volume has consistently supported price stability.
At the same time, network indicators present a mixed outlook. The network value to transactions ratio dropped by 32.1% alongside a decrease in total transaction counts, even as open interest grew to $477 million with liquidations affecting both long and short positions. This increase in leverage points to a higher likelihood of volatility rather than a definitive, one-way market trend.
If the asset faces a rejection at the 50-week moving average, it could spark a retracement down to the $1.38 support level. A breakdown beneath that floor might expose the $1.29 to $1.30 range, where a short-term moving average aligns with recent whale accumulation.
While steady exchange reserves and ongoing whale accumulation provide a buffer against severe downside risks, high leverage leaves the door open for sharp price swings in either direction.
As the current $1.40 to $1.55 trading range unfolds throughout the week, market watchers continue to track trading volume, funding rates, and net exchange flows closely.
