HONG KONG, Sept. 22, 2026 – The University of Hong Kong (HKU) will play host to the iFX Hack Hong Kong 2026 trading and fintech hackathon powered by AWS on Oct. 4, 2026. The event unites students, developers, entrepreneurs, AI experts, and tech and financial services professionals to design practical, AI-driven solutions for the financial sector’s future.
Co-organized by iFX and the HKU Business School Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE), and powered by AWS, the hackathon features the Artificial Intelligence Association of Hong Kong (AIHK) and Tsunami Advisors as partners. The HKU Technology Entrepreneurship Core (TEC) serves as a supporting organization.
Guided by the theme “Build the Future of Finance with AI,” competitors will pinpoint a significant challenge in financial services and create a working prototype or AI-driven solution.
Contenders may focus on sectors including payments, compliance, trading, and digital assets.
The event is free and welcomes individuals 18 and older, encompassing students, developers, tech specialists, entrepreneurs, financial technology professionals, and anyone possessing the appropriate skills, passion, or concepts to share.
Attendees may register individually or in groups ranging from two to five members, with solo applicants eligible for team-matching assistance where feasible. Attendance is capped at 100 people. The competition extends beyond HKU, as the top seven teams advance to the Grand Final scheduled for Oct. 8 at iFX EXPO Asia 2026 inside the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
Finalists will utilize the dates of Oct. 5 through Oct. 7 to polish their prototypes ahead of their presentations before a global audience on the iFX EXPO Asia stage. Participating teams will vie for a combined prize fund of HKD 28,000, distributed as follows: 1st Prize: HKD 16,000 • 2nd Prize: HKD 8,000 • 3rd Prize: HKD 4,000
